Stoneham MA is just 10 miles north of Boston and within the ‘128 Belt’ that delineates metro-Boston. It’s very well located with 2 exits right of Rt 93, and very close to the Rte 95 interchange. They have bus service to the Orange line at Oak Grove in Malden, and an express bus that goes down Rt 93 to Haymarket in Boston.
Stoneham offers terrific outdoor activities including seasonal sail/canoe and kayak rentals at at Spot Pond Reservoir which includes 2500 acres of land & water for plenty of recreational fun. It’s part of the expansive Middlesex Fells Reservation which has endless hiking, biking, cross country skiing and horseback riding trails. Stoneham is also the home of the Stone Zoo which is a perennial favorite for children and adults alike. They do Boo at the Zoo where they decorate it for Halloween, and from Thanksgiving to just after New Year’s Day, they do their annual Zoo Lights extravaganza where they decorate the whole zoo with tens of thousands of holiday lights & decorations. They also hold fun events like Brew at the Zoo and Ales & Tales where they cater to the over 21 crowd with events that support education programs and conservation initiatives. Stoneham has a public swimming pool that caters to all ages, as well as convenient shopping center at Redstone Plaza. The venerable Stoneham Theater in the town center offers terrific entertainment all year long, and there are many fine restaurants and Dining options throughout the town.
